In just six years, IOMED has become a leading company in Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, with a nationwide presence and ongoing expansion into European countries.

IOMED, a leader in Artificial Intelligence applied to healthcare data, has showcased its success as an entrepreneurial company in the healthcare sector to researchers from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – National Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), as part of the Innovation Journey program driven by BSC-CNS and X4HPC. Participants in this training have gained insights into the steps to turn an idea into a successful company.

Gabriel Maeztu, Co-Founder of the company, gave a talk on entrepreneurship summarizing the AI company's journey.

"The introduction of a paradigm shift in natural language processing (NLP) using artificial intelligence in 2013 allowed the capture of semantic and syntactic relationships in an unprecedented way. IOMED capitalized on this breakthrough by incorporating these techniques for the normalization of clinical data. This adoption has significantly improved outcomes in information extraction, enabling a richer and more nuanced interpretation of medical data. IOMED has solidified its position as a key player in the application of advanced data technologies in the medical field," he recalled.

IOMED adds value to the healthcare sector, including hospitals, medical institutions, the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry, healthcare technology companies, as well as researchers and academics. Currently, more than 50 strategic partners in the healthcare sector, including hospitals, research centers, and laboratories, leverage IOMED's technology. This technology enables healthcare professionals to understand and analyze large amounts of information, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to enhance hospital outcomes, clinical research, and patient care.

The 2023 edition of the Innovation Journey aims to promote entrepreneurship among BSC-CNS and X4HPC researchers. It is a technology transfer training program designed for researchers who aspire to venture into entrepreneurship and acquire the tools to bring their technologies to the market. This year's program will run from October 16 to December 13, 2023, culminating in the final Demo Day.

The transfer of technology from research centers to society and the private sector is becoming a reality. It allows scientists to develop and exploit their discoveries in a more independent and challenging yet fruitful manner. It also enables the private market to benefit from technological solutions developed in the public domain.

About IOMED:

IOMED develops technology based on artificial intelligence for activating healthcare data from hospital data sources. This technology can activate both structured and unstructured data, thanks to its Natural Language Processing System. The standardized data is maintained within hospital internal systems and is accessible through its federated data condition. Thus, IOMED is a strategic ally in achieving a healthcare ecosystem driven by Real-World Data.
